Startpunkt ist Kettwig an der Ruhr, am Mühlengraben. Bei der Anreise mit des S-Bahn S6 von Essen ist der Bahnhof Kettwig empfehlenswert. Aus Richtung Düsseldorf liegt der Bahnhof Kettwig-Stausee günstiger, die Räder müssen aber die Bahnhofstreppen hinunter geschleppt werden. Mit dem Auto aus Essen über die A52 ist die Abfahrt 26 Essen-Kettwig und von der A3, der A524 oder A52 aus Düsseldorf kommend, ist die Abfahrt 25 Breitscheid zu nehmen. Da es sich um einen Rundkurs handelt, ist der Einstieg überall der Route möglich.
