Anfangs besteht die Strecke noch aus einer wenig befahrenen Asphaltstraße, die nach den ersten hundert Höhenmetern zu einem Forstweg wird. Der Weg schlängelt sich zahlreiche Spitzkehren bis zum Wildkogelhaus. Hier startet hinter dem Haus der Wildkogel Trail. Dieser ist fast durchgehend fahrbar.
Der Trailstart ist auch mit dem Lift zu erreichen. (Wildkogelbahn)
