Die Tour führt von Hamburg (Hauptbahnhof) bis nach Meitingen (20 km vor Augsburg) entlang der Flüsse Leine, Werra, Main und Altmühl. Die Idee war, eine bequeme und trotzdem schöne Route zu finden.
Hannover und Göttingen wurden besuchshalber angesteuert. Eine sinnvole Variante zu Leine, Werra wäre auch Leine, Weser, Fulda gewesen.
Die Tour hält sich überwiegend an die jeweils offiziellen Radwege; Abweichungen enstanden manchmal aus Unkenntnis oder aber auch zur Abkürzung.
Ortsdurchfahrten und Suchfahrten wurden bereinigt, der Abstecher nach Eisenach bleib drin.
