Auf einer der schönsten Gebirgsbahnstrecken des Thüringer Waldes "Schmalkalden-Brotterode" schnauften einst Dampfrösser durch die reizvolle Landschaft. Heute sind begeisterte Radfahrer auf ihren Drahteseln unterwegs. Eindrucksvoll ist die Fahrt auf asphaltierter Straße durch den beleuchteten Tunnel, über das Viadukt vor Kleinschmalkalden und durch den 170 m langen Bahneinschnitt bis zum ehemaligen Haltepunkt Auwallenburg. Der 2003 eröffnete Mommelstein-Radwanderweg ist eine optimale Trainingsstrecke für alle, die etwas für ihre Gesundheit tun wollen und die ideale Verbindung zwischen den Fernradwanderwegen Rennsteig und Werratal.
