Augangspunkt ist ein Parkplatz bei der Rettenbachmühle in Bad Ischl. Zuerst einer steilen Forststrasse entlang bis zu einem Schranken, dann rechts auf den Wanderweg 220 zur Mitteralm. Weiter am Weg 220 zur Abzweigung Hochgelegt und ein schmaler Grad zur Hohen Schrott. Abstieg zurück zur Abzweigung Hochgelegt dann rechts zur Kotalm.
Keine schwierige aber am Anfang etwas steile Tour. Aufstieg ca.3h Abstieg ca.2h Einkehrmöglichkeit von Juni bis Sept. in der Kotalm.(Hälfte des Abstiegs)
