Zu Beginn wandert man entlang des Nordufers des Erlaufsees. Nach kurzer Strecke beginnt der Anstieg über Wlandwege. Während des Aufstieges hat man immer wieder schöne Blicke auf Mariazell und den Erlaufsee. Weiter bergauf geht es teilweise in Serpentinen entlang der Skipiste. Am Gipfel ergibt sich ein wunderschönes Bergpanorama auf den Erlaufsee, Ötscher, Göller, Dürrenstein, usw. Weiter geht es teilweise durch Latschenfelder zum Eisernen Herrgott, den Dürrenstein immer im Blickfeld. Durch den Steinbachgraben und vorbei am Erlaufsee zurück zum Startpunkt.

A1 Abfahrt St. Pölten Süd - B20 in Richung Mariazell folgen. Auf der Niederösterreichischen Seite gibt es auch kostenlose Parkplätze.
