Vom Achensee ausgehend geht es auf einer breiten und sanft ansteigenden Straße bis zum Talschluss. Bei der Gernalm beginnt die Auffahrt auf das Plumsjoch und weiter bis zum Plumssattel auf über 1.600 Meter Seehöhe und zur gleichnamigen bewirtschafteten Alm. Es folgt eine Abfahrt, auf breiten Schotterstraßen geht es weiter bis in die Eng. Von dort startet Tal auswärts der zweite Anstieg über die Schwarzlackenhütte und auf Schotterwegen bis zum Karwendelhaus. Von hier führt dann eine lange und schöne Abfahrt bis zum Etappenziel Scharnitz.
