Der Hardter Wald ist ein ausgedehntes Waldgebiet mit Mischwald, vorwiegend Kiefern, und das Top-Naherholungsgebiet innerhalb der Stadt Mönchengladbach. Das Auto kann man in der Nähe der Gaststätte "Onkel Gustav" Brahmsstr. auf einem großen Wanderparkplatz abstellen. Überall unterwegs gibt es Rastplätze, die zum Picknick einladen; teils überdacht. Der Weg führt durch die bäuerliche Ansiedlung Leloh (Stadt Schwalmtal), an den Hügelgräbern von 500 - 800 nach Christi (Bronzezeit) und an der Matthiaskapelle vorbei. Ich empfehle, eine Einkehr bei "Onkel Gustav" am Ende der Wanderung einzuplanen.

Man fährt durch den Stadtteil Hardt über die B 230 Richtung Westen und biegt links ab in die Brahmsstr. und fährt bis zum Waldparkplatz hinter der Gaststätte. Kommt man von der Autobahnabfahrt Hostert, muss man rechts in die Brahmstr. abbiegen.
