Vom Bhf. Elend läuft man den Wanderweg in Richtung Schierke. Der Weg hat zum Teil Trampelpfad-Charakter, was etwas Trittsicherheit erfordert. Nach etwa einer halben Stunde kann man an der "Helenenruh" in einer Schutzhütte rasten. Von dort hat man einen schönen Blick auf Schierke. Nach der Rast geht es auf einem breiten Wanderweg vorbei in Richtung Schierke. Vorbei an einigen Häusern quert man die asphaltierte Strasse Richtung Oberschierke und folgt dem Wanderweg zum Bahnhof Schierke. Von hier fährt die HSB (Harzer Schmalspurbahn) über Drei Annen Hohne zurück nach Elend.

Elend liegt im Harz zwischen Elbigerode und Braunlage. Von Wernigerode kommend findet man den Bahnhof samt Bahnübergang etwa 200m hinter dem Ortseingang. Hier stehen ausreichend Parkplätze zur Verfügung.
