Es handelt sich um die Tour 21 - Von Merten auf den Stachelberg - aus dem Wanderführer von Dumont "Wandern im Begischen Land". Der Rundkurs ist als anspruchsvoll beschrieben.
Der Weg A4 hinter Merten in Richtung Hohn ist etwas unwegsam. Ansonsten verläuft die Strecke ganz überwiegend auf Teerstraßen, was nicht unbedingt das Wandervergnügen trotz schöner Aussichten erhöht.
Der Abstieg ins Siegtal (siehe Bild) setzt m E nicht notwendigerweise die Mitnahme von Teleskopstöcken voraus, da die Halteseile ausreichend Sicherheit bieten dürften und die Strecke im übrigen unproblematisch ist.
Fazit: Trotz sehr schöner Ausblicke wegen des hohen Teerstraßenanteils sicher keine Spitzentour.
