Direkt nach dem Start präsentiert sich das barocke Haus von Bürgermeister Bertoldi, in dem Napoleon 1811 übernachtete. Natürlich gehört es nicht zu den Gründerzeitbauten. Denen begegnen die Stadterkunder am nördlichen Ende der Mülheimer Freiheit. Von dort an trifft man immer wieder auf gründerzeitliche Wohnhäuser in großbürgerlicher Manier aber auch mehr nach Gusto mittlerer bürgerlicher Schichten - inklusive der Wohnhäuser für handwerkliche Unternehmer. Diesem Baustil begegnet man bis zum Erreichen des Mülheimer Stadtgartens.
