Der Eddy Merckx Maraton findet seit 2007 Anfang September statt. Es nehmen ungefähr 1500 Rennradfahrer an dieser Veranstaltung teil. Die Strecke startet in Eugendorf und führt übers oberösterreichische Innviertel ins Alpenvorland. Man fährt in einer landschaftlich äußerst reizvollen Gegend, vorbei an Obertrumersee, Irrsee, Mondsee und Fuschlsee durch die Strubklamm und hinauf auf den Gaisberg mit herrlichem Blick auf die Stadt Salzburg. Alles in allem auch eine äußerst schöne Strecke für eine Ausfahrt. Der sehr bergige Abschnitt ab Thalgau ist ganz besonders zu empfehlen.
