This is the classic Iceland trek. It takes 4 days, and starts at Landmannalaugar, which is accesible from Reykjavik by bus, and ends at Thorsmork, which is also linked to Reykjavik by bus.
You have a choice of camping at designated camp spots, or using the huts en route. Wild camping is strictly prohibited as the fragile ecosystem is easily disturbed.
As with any hike in Iceland, good preparation is essential. If doing it over 4 days, which is recommended, the the daily amount of walking is around 5 hours, not too much or the average walker. Huts must be booked in advance during the summer season, as they are small and are often full booked.
