Die Tour verläuft von Lindau am Bodensee bis nach Mainz den Rhein entlang. Sie führt dabei durch drei Länder. Meist verläuft sie linksrheinisch, besonders im französischen Teil, da dort die Wegequalität besser ist als rechtsrheinisch. Landschaftlich aber auch kulturell hat die Rheinroute viel zu bieten, so fährt man vom milden Bodensee am Fuße der Alpen ins hügligere Schaffhausen. Große Städte wie Basel und Strasbourg fehlen ebenso wenig wie beschauliche Kleinstädte wie Colmar oder Speyer. Für die fast 800 km haben wir im Sommer 2008 elf Tage gebraucht, Besichtigungen sowie einen Pausentag in Strasbourg inklusive. Alles in allem eine sehr abwechslungsreiche und erlebnisreiche Tour, die keine riesigen Ansprüche an Radler und Rad stellt.
