Es geht los am Bahnhof in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, durch den Ort nach Hammersbach. Unterhalb des Waxensteins und der Riffelspitze geht es dann bergauf bis zur Wiener-Neustädter-Hütten und anschließend den Klettersteig hinauf bis zum Gipfel. Der Abstieg erfolgt über's Sonn Alpin, die Knorr Hütte und das Partnachtal entlang bis zum Bahnhof
