Von der Sajathütte geht es zunächst hoch auf die Sajatscharte mit einer tollen Aussicht. Danach beginnt der Abstieg zur Johannishütte (2116 m), wo man sich für den folgenden Aufstieg zum Defreggerhaus (2964 m) stärken kann. Vom Defreggerhaus führt unter dem Lastenaufzug ein kurzer Pfad zum Ausblick auf den Gletscher und den Einstieg zum Weg auf den Groß Venediger.
