De wandeltocht voert langs de oever van het zoutmeer La Mata. Dit zoutmeer meet 700 ha en wordt niet meer gebruikt voor de zoutproductie. De naastliggende salina van Torrevieja (1500 ha) produceert per jaar 600 000 ton zout, deze productie gaat het gehele jaar door. Langs de brede oever tref je pijnbomen, eucalyptus en tijm aan. Wat de fauna betreft tref je veel "overwinteraars" aan.
