Start ist in Bad Hofgastein, am Friedhof. Es geht kurz durch den Beginn des Höhenwegs Richtung Bad Gastein. Dann einige Serpentinen die Straße hinauf zum Gasthof Annenhof. Dort beginnt der Schotterweg, der sich bis zu den Hütten zieht. Die Auffahrt ist ohne extreme Stellen, unterschreitet aber selten die 15%. Sie geht in vielen Serpentinen über eine Bachschlucht und dann schließlich diese entlang in ein waldiges Tal. Am Ende erreicht man eine kleine Hüttenansiedlung, mit der Rastötzenhütte ganz oben, darunter die Planitzenhütte und die Grußberghütte. Letztere ist die netteste mit dem besten Jausen.
